Yes I do have an SLi mobo (Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI) and did try and get a cheap 6800GT off ebay to go with it (I'm in the UK btw) but was out bid. Yep, different brands, even different clock speeds are okay with current drivers. OTOH the 7600GT doesn't look a bad card although I suspect 2x6800GT's will be faster.

I downloaded the very latest (dd 7-26-98) 7800 family OS/2 drivers from the Adaptec web site, but I still can't get OS/2 to load the AIC78U2. If I REM out this driver, the install sequence continues past this point but eventually complains that it can't find the CDROM drive and I can't go any further.

There are all kinds of HOWTOs on getting this to work, and many of the drivers are in the Linux source tree. Which explains why the source tree is so big ;) The underlying issue is that there A lot of R&D would go into such a card, and people would expect it to track (somewhat) with advances from other vendors.

Driver Help Needed - 7800 GT
Removing the driver fixes this problem. In reading the Iomega documentation, it appears there may be some conflicts between the Adaptec and Iomega ADD drivers -- it suggests changing jumpers, but not sure I want to go that route yet. Besides, even if I got the Zip drive fixed, I'd have the shut down problem.

I don't want to go with a "Universal" dock because the laptop needs both PC-card slots for modem and network. I think having a setup with one (or a select few) video drivers only installed is reasonable. So, either xserver-xorg should allow this, perhaps by turning the dependency into a recommendation. Or the comment about removal "strongly discouraged" could go away. My workaround so far is to remove xserver-xorg,

My latest response from Microsoft Tech Support suggests that I go check the cables, termination, etc. And, "If this is an integrated controller. Adaptec really doesn't have a suitable driver for Win2K yet. It's surprising that Microsoft would bother to include any Adaptec 7800 family driver on the current Win2K CD.
